Version 1.7 is a Shareware version that records through the Mac's sound  ports and can play back in either AIFF or as resource files. Recording time is only limited by your hard disk space when using AIFF format. Sound  Studio can also record in 3 quality levels (22Khz, 3 to 1 & 6 to 1  Compression), supports Drag & Drop playback (with System 7) and playing any resource in any file or application.

A monitor with a resolution of at least  640 x 480 pixels (optional - This is only needed to display the graphics in 2:1 mode). Software Requirements - System 7 or 32-bit QuickDraw, Apple  CD-ROM Software version 4.0.2 or later. Insert a CD+G disc in the drive.   The CD+G Player works with Audio CDs too, but isn't nearly as fun. If the  software is installed correctly, an "Audio CD" icon should appear on the  desktop after a few seconds. A list of CD's to try is included.

It requires Apple’s Speech Manager, and fails  gracefully if it is not present. It lists all installed voices in the  "Voices" menu. You can choose which voice you want Welcome! to use in the  future by selecting one. If you don't select any, it defaults to either  "Female Voice", if available, or the last voice installed, if not. Version  1.3.2 is a bug-fix, which fixes the darn bug that made it Thanksgiving all  week (this one manifested at a job interview) and adds Halloween (no, I  don't know how I missed it the first time. Try it.

It also  recognizes rings, busy signals, and the dial tone. Tones may be analyzed in real time, or recorded and then decoded. You can toggle the recognition of  certain classes of tones by checking/unchecking the appropriate boxes to  the right of the transform button. Touch Tone Decoder features a graph of  the current recording's average amplitude versus time in the small  rectangle immediately below the buttons.This copy is partially disabled -  it will not acknowledge 3 of the 16 touch tones. To obtain a full-featured  copy, please register by sending $25 to the author.

When a background application such as the PrintMonitor wants the user's attention, it will  often install a notification which will appear to the user as a dialog box  with a speaking person icon, some descriptive text and an ok button. This  INIT takes the descriptive text and uses the Speech Manager routine  SpeakString to verbalize it. Requires the Speech Manager 3.0 and System 7.

Now, years later, you couldn't take the  Mac away from her. This is a great beep sound!!

Events which you can add sound to  include - restart, shut down, disk insert, bad disk, disk request, beep,  key click, chime count, chime, alarm clock, empty trash, zoom open, zoom  closed, grow window and copy done. You can also just test a sample sound.  System requirements are System 6.0.4 or later, preferably 6.0.7 or later,  and at least one megabyte of RAM memory, preferably at least two.

It is System 7-friendly, and has balloon help, Apple events (for file, folder and disk dropping), normal, reverse, random play order, repeat options, info  about the sounds, etc. The formats currently supported are - SoundEdit data files (Hint - you can also play PC sounds, thanks to this format), System  7 sounds, System 7 suitcases, and Sound Mover suitcases. Try dropping your  favorite game on SndPlayer, and listening to all of the sounds!

It is System 7-friendly, and has balloon help, Apple events (for  file, folder and disk dropping), etc. The formats currently supported are - SoundEdit data files (Hint - you can also convert PC sounds, thanks to this format) System 7 sounds, System 7 suitcases, and Sound Mover suitcases. The preferences dialog lets you customise SndConverter Pro to your individual  tastes. The prefs dialog is divided into three “pages”, with each page  containing one or two sections. System 6 or above.

It collects information  including sound name, sound size, sound format, folder/suitcase name, and  disk name, though you can choose what information to include.The info is  written to a TEXT file you name, or an existing file.It is System  7-friendly, and has balloon help, Apple events (for file, folder and disk  dropping), etc. The formats currently supported are - SoundEdit, System 7  sounds, System 7 suitcases, and Sound Mover suitcases - this category  includes applications containing sounds and HyperCard™ stacks - basically,  you can catalogue ‘snd ’ resources hidden in any file.
SoundTrecker Patch v.3.sit     MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:So-Sz:SoundTrecker Patch v.3.sit     EnglishPa        0      27K      1/26/94     SoundTrecker Patch v.3 - This patch update the German version of  Sound-Trecker 2.0 to an English version of SoundTracker 2.0. This is just a simple hack that was thrown together by another author. It dosn't have  documentaion, and a few of the menus and dialogs are still in German, but  most of the menus and dialogs are in English, as best as he could translate it. Your preferences should still be preserved from the German version. Be  sure to look at the balloon help also. Please apply the patch to a copy  and not your original. This author is not affiliated with the author of  SoundTracker (German).

This program uses a brand new mathematical  model for pitch recognition. It is fast and extremely accurate. Inside,  you'll also find information on how to obtain other amazing Perfect  Pitch(TM) products... (See the 'Perfect Pitch...' menu item.). You'll need  System 6.0.4 or later and a Mac with sound input capability (Standard on  most newer Macs.) Also supports second-party sound input devices  (MacRecorder,Voice Link, etc.) This program is system 7.0 compatible, and  strictly follows the Macintosh protocol for sound input. See what pitch  your voice is!
Ulaw Play 1.1.sit        MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:U-Z:Ulaw Play 1.1.sit     1.1              0       9K      1/14/94     Ulaw Play 1.1 - Drag and drop (requires System 7 and at least a 68020) finite memory infinite dimensional Ulaw (mu-law) sound file player. It recognizes both Sun Ulaw files and MIME headerless Ulaw files. It also plays the data fork of any file which usually means listening to a load of  yuk. UlawPlay uses a double buffering technique to read in chunks of data from the input file, apply the inverse mu-law characteristic and play it  all in real time. In this way the application doesn't need much memory and  can play very large sound files (no upper limit in principle). You may hear a very small amount of noise between chunks but it is not too bad; all this probably depends on the processor speed used and the disk access time.

The application Ulaw converts mac sampled sounds to  Sun Ulaw format sounds and vice versa. In one direction Ulaw extracts the sounds from the 'snd ' resources of any Mac file. Then it interpolates to the Sun audio 8kHz sampling rate and applies the standard Ulaw quantization characteristic. In the other direction it reads a Sun Ulaw Format Sound File and creates a double clickable Mac sound file (sfil) at any desird sampling rate. Any number of mac files can be dragged and dropped onto the  Ulaw application icon and Ulaw will extract, play and store every 'snd '  resource in the resource fork of each file automatically. Requires System 7 and AppleEvents.
SoundMachine1.0.sit      MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:So-Sz:SoundMachine1.0.sit     1.0              0      30K      1/14/94     SoundMachine1.0 - Primarily a small memory background µ-law sound player for both Sun µ-law and headerless µ-law files. Uses a custom double buffering technique to play arbitrarily large files continuously from disk. (It can also play linear format files.) It relies on other applications being multitasking friendly to give a continuous sound output. Future plans are to overcome this minor deficiency. Sounds can be fast forwarded; reversed and sped-up; paused and looped. Clicking within the progress bar skips to that portion of the sound. Any number of files can be dragged and  dropped onto the application icon and SoundMachine will queue and play  every file. Requires System 7.
SoundApp 1.0.sit         MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:So-Sz:SoundApp 1.0.sit     1.0              0      63K      1/14/94     SoundApp 1.0 - SoundApp is a great all purpose sound player. You can drop sounds on it to play, or open sounds from within the application. Currently, it can play the following sound formats - SoundCap, SoundEdit, AIFF, System 7 Sounds, Sun Sparc Audio (AU), Windows WAVE, Sound Blaster  VOC, Amiga MOD, Amiga IFF (8SVX), DVI ADPCM, and any 'snd' resource files.  Also, you can drop a folder on SoundApp, and it will search for sounds to play nested inside. Files can be played directly or added to a Play List  and played in any order. SoundApp also allows the conversion of these sound formats to System 7 double-clickable sound files. Best of all, it's  freeware! Try dropping a game on it - you'll hear all the sounds.
BriansSoundTool 1.3.sit     MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:B:BriansSoundTool 1.3.sit     1.3              0     116K      1/14/94     BriansSoundTool 1.3 - This is an increasingly less "quick and dirty" program to do drag and drop conversion to and from Windoze .WAV files and Mac sound files. If you open a non-Mac file with it, it will convert it to  a Mac file, and if you open a Mac file, it will convert it to a Windoze .WAV file. The output options are fairly limited. For input however, a Macintosh file is - a system 7 sound file, an FSSD file (with or without HCOM compression), or virtually any file containing 'snd ' resources. Non-Macintosh input files can be .WAV files, Sound blaster .VOC files, Sun(/NeXT) µ-Law (provided they are 8 bit mono), Amiga 8SVX, and AIFF  files.

SounDisk 1.4.sit         MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:So-Sz:SounDisk 1.4.sit     1.4              0      61K     12/27/93     SounDisk 1.4 - SounDisk is a direct to disk recording and playback  application. Sounds are saved in AIFF format, and your time is limited  only to the amount of hard drive space remaining (not RAM dependent).  SounDisk lets you record very long audio files, play back these files  directly from disk, and with multifinder or system 7, you can play them in  the background while your Mac does other things. The best quality file that SounDisk will produce is 22kHz, one channel, 8-bit samples. Works with  system 6 or 7 and any Mac with a microphone, including the AV Macs.
SndVolume.sit            MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:S-Sn:SndVolume.sit                        0      12K     12/27/93     SndVolume - If you have system 7 and BeHierarchic, Now Menus or a similar  extension then your Apple menu items folders show up as hierarchical menus. SndVolume is a collection of tiny applications that take advantage of this  to let you change the speaker volume on your mac almost instantly. You put  the folder into your apple menu items or control panels folder and you can  select any sound volume directly from the apple menu. There is a separate  (tiny) application to set each volume number 0 - 7. You can even place them on the desktop for quick double clicking sound changing capabilities. Great if you are always changing the volume!

M5Mac 1.1b.sit           MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:M:M5Mac 1.1b.sit         1.1b             0     271K     12/27/93     M5Mac 1.1b - Music 5 Mac is a Macintosh compiler of the famous Music V  sound synthesis language. It has been integrated with a simple text  editor and a powerful graphic instrument editor, and has translation  capabilities from textual and graphical representation of the instruments.  It can generate sounds in several different formats and has some sound  format conversion utilities. This is a beta version, use it at your own  risk. Please report bugs. Two versions are included - one for 68000, and  for 020/030.

Insert your music, and control the playing as with a CD player. Advance a song, go to the beginning of a song, see how much time is  remaining, how much has elapsed, how much time for the whole CD...,  includes a repeat song, shuffle (play in random order), choose the sound  output and more. If it is a disk where you have entered the names of the  songs using Apple's CD Remote, than the names will also appear using  Audiodeck. Great, small, cool controller. Audiodeck requires System 7.0 or  later and ColorQuickDraw in order to run. Although you will not "crash",  running in less than 16 colours is a not "supported".

MacMessage, a 32-bit clean, System 7 compatible, virtual  memory compatible, and ‘040 caching compatible program, allows you to -  Exchange customized voice messages (with graphics) with colleagues using  anyavailable voices on your system without requiring them to have  additionalsoftware. Have your Macintosh greet you on startup. Test the  speech capabilities of your Macintosh. Show your friends how cool a Mac is  compared to a PC, and more!

Conversely, if you enter a number of milliseconds for any type of note-value, StudioCalc will tell you what the tempo is, in BPM, and will fill in the rest of the note chart  accordingly. Using StudioCalc is easy - just click in any numerical field,  type a number and hit ReCalculate ( or type ENTER or RETURN). The whole  chart is updated based on the last number you typed in.

With So To Speak, you can have multiple  voices synthesizing speech at once, vary the modulation, pitch, rate, and  volume of the synthesized speech, and exercise full control over the  pausing and stopping points. You can also change the voice used for  synthesis, the way characters and numbers are interpreted, and whether the  text entered should be treated as text or phonemes. The windows have been  designed to work on any monitor size and depth; they are all resizable.  Requires System 7 and the Speech Manager 1.0 or later.

Among  its features - The fastest oscilloscope I've ever seen. The oscilloscope  can be broken down into two separate oscilloscopes - The first two tracks  and the last two. A piano which shows the note each track is playing. On  the piano, you can also turn off (And back on) each individual track. A  fast partition. Basically shows you a music score (Without the lines). An  instrument list. Instruments can be saved into System 7 sound files. Player Pro can create an application which contains a MOD. You double-click on the application, and it plays. Must have at least a 68020 Mac, and 32 bit  addressing ON. 10 minute limit to demo.
CD Coyote 1.0.1.sit      MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:C:CD Coyote 1.0.1.sit     1.0.1            0      18K     11/10/93     CD Coyote 1.0.1 - CD Coyote is a program for CD-ROM drive users who listen  to audio CD's and have written disc information (disk titles and song  names) to the CD Remote. Coyote helps you make a TEXT file of information  which has been entered into CD Remote. When saving a text file, you can  choose to get disc titles, get track names, number disc titles and number  track names. You can also choose the disk anc track delimiters (for easy  importing into other documents). CD Coyote requires System 7 and CD Remote.
Weekday Sound 1.0.sit     MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:U-Z:Weekday Sound 1.0.sit     1.0              0      15K     10/28/93     Weekday Sound 1.0 - This is a program that will play a sound when the  Macintosh is started. Every weekday has it's own sound, so if you on every  Monday wants to hear ”Manic Monday” when you turn it on, then this is the  way to do it. The program is fairly simple. Put in on top of the System  folder (not inside the open folder), restart, choose it from the Control  Panel and enjoy. Requires System 7.
Tap 1.2.sit              MusicDL          AMUG CD:Files:Music:T:Tap 1.2.sit            1.2              0      15K     10/28/93     Tap 1.2 - Tap is a program that accurately derives a tempo reading from a  user's tap input. Unlike other tap algorithms such as those in drum  machines and most sequencers, Tap displays a running average tempo starting with the very first tap and hence, it gets more accurate the longer one  taps. Other algorithms only take into account the last 4 or 8 taps and  because the human finger is not that precise, nor will be the tempo. Future versions of Tap will hopefully use Midi and Audio as other sources of  Tempo. Complete instructions are included.

SoundBuilder should run on any Macintosh with System 7 or later. Recording  requires that a sound input device also be attached to your Mac. Only 8-bit sampled sounds are supported. The new version of this sound editor includes improved interface and support for stereo sounds. Reads and writes SND,  AIFF, WAV, and VOC sound formats. Will also attempt to read unknown format  files. Has complete editing functionality and supports 3 to 1 and 6 to 1  compression for Mac formats, has asynchronous recording of sound. Many,  many other features.

You will have to have a Macintosh with a  microphone port, and some sound source plugged into it. We designed "Music  Thru" to allow us to play Audio CDs through the microphone port on an LC II and then output the sound through the Macintosh speakers."Music Thru"  backgrounds nicely in System 7, so you can listen to those CDs while you  work! If you own a Centris, IIvx or Quadra, you can do this already with an internal CD player... but we only had an LC II!  I hope you enjoy this  completely free piece of software!

If the Caps Lock key is  down, the dialog doesn't pop up and the sound volume is directly set to 0.  After the sound volume has been changed, the standard beep will be played  at the new volume.

Each of them contained one or more  sound resources. They were (and still are) a very popular way of storing  sounds. When System 7.0 was released, we saw that one of the new Finder’s  features was to play a sound by clicking on its icon. The problem is that  this can’t be done with sound suitcases. Here is where SoundExtractor comes in. Just drag a suitcase on top of SoundExtractor’s, and a new folder will  be created. This folder will have a custom icon of a folder with a little  speaker on it, and it will contain all the sounds that were in the sound  suitcase. But now, double-clicking on the sounds will play them!

It works pretty much like the  old Font/DA Mover but it moves sound resources intead of fonts. In fact,  creating a new sound file will create a font suitcase with a custom icon  that makes it look like a sound suitcase; moving this suitcase inside  System 7.1's Font folder (inside the System folder) will make the Mac  believe it's a font suitcase, so it will be opened and all its sounds will  be available in the Sound control panel right away. All this could be done  manually with ResEdit, but it's a lot easier to do it with SoundCaser.

This was  in the "confusion" room. A microphone picked up sounds that guests made,  and at random intervals, they heard their own voices played at other parts  of the room. The hack listens to the sound input device and remembers  everything it hears (that is loud enough) and then plays those things back  in a random order. If your Mac has stereo capability, then it also randomly chooses a speaker to play each sound. The more memory the program has  allocated, the more sounds it remembers. Source code is included. Requires  a Mac with a microphone, and System 7.

If you’ve got a stereo-capable Mac, which either mixes the left and right channels into one mono channel (Mac LC) or outputs true stereo from  the speaker port (Mac IIs and Quadras), you’ll be able to play the sound  just by double-clicking the sound file in the Finder. Mono2Finder requires  System 7.0 or later, and stereo sounds will be succesfully created on any  Mac, but they won’t play on the following Macintoshes - Mac Plus, SE,  Classic, Mac Portable, PowerBook 100.

I like to record sounds that can be looped; that  is, they can be played over and over without any noticeable click at the  end of each playback. SoundEdit lets you do that easily (you can play a  loop by holding down the shift key when clicking on the "play" icon), but  once you've saved the sound there's no way to loop it from the Finder. Many of my sounds don't even sound good if they're not looped, so I wrote this  little application to play my loops. Just drop a System 7 sound file on  LoopSound's icon and it will be played forever (until you quit LoopSound or drop another sound on it). System 7 is required.

You may  also drop AIFF and System 7 sound files on Mr. Drop to play them while you  keep working (multi-megabyte files can be played without any trouble).

When a sound window is in the front of  the screen any noncommand keys will trigger the sound to be played at a  frequency related to the ASCII of the key. The author's fascination with  those cool amiga MOD files lead him/her to do this.

We didn't deviate too far... meaning we followed the original beep sound  guidelines of replicating the tone of a jet liner when the 'no smoking' or  'fasten your set belts' sign  lights up. Descriptively speaking it is a  bell sound with no attack, sustained decay, then a gentle release.  Just  drop the file on your system folder (and it will go in your System).   Configured for System 7 users only (just use it as prescribed), but  resource hacks can move it in earlier systems.

In other words, Speed Beep offers  asynchronous sound playing of system beeps.  In addition, you can select a  group of sounds for your Macintosh to beep from at random (if you wish),  and you can cause more than one beep to play at once (if your Macintosh  hardware and software support multiple sound playing). This version fixes  an incompatibility with the Disinfectant 2.5.1 system extension and other  minor problems; I recommend that all users of earlier versions download  this upgrade.
