It requires Apple’s Speech Manager, and fails gracefully if it is not present. It lists all installed voices in the "Voices" menu. You can choose which voice you want Welcome! to use in the future by selecting one. If you don't select any, it defaults to either "Female Voice", if available, or the last voice installed, if not. Version 1.3.2 is a bug-fix, which fixes the darn bug that made it Thanksgiving all week (this one manifested at a job interview) and adds Halloween (no, I don't know how I missed it the first time. Try it.

It dosn't have documentaion, and a few of the menus and dialogs are still in German, but most of the menus and dialogs are in English, as best as he could translate it. Your preferences should still be preserved from the German version. Be sure to look at the balloon help also. Please apply the patch to a copy and not your original. Inside, you'll also find information on how to obtain other amazing Perfect Pitch(TM) products... (See the 'Perfect Pitch...' menu item.). You'll need System 6.0.4 or later and a Mac with sound input capability (Standard on most newer Macs.) Ulaw Play 1.1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:U-Z:Ulaw Play 1.1.sit 1.1 0 9K 1/14/94 Ulaw Play 1.1 - Drag and drop (requires System 7 and at least a 68020) finite memory infinite dimensional Ulaw (mu-law) sound file player. It recognizes both Sun Ulaw files and MIME headerless Ulaw files. It also plays the data fork of any file which usually means listening to a load of yuk. UlawPlay uses a double buffering technique to read in chunks of data from the input file, apply the inverse mu-law characteristic and play it all in real time. In this way the application doesn't need much memory and can play very large sound files (no upper limit in principle). You may hear a very small amount of noise between chunks but it is not too bad; all this probably depends on the processor speed used and the disk access time.
Ulaw 1.4.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:U-Z:Ulaw 1.4.sit 1.4 0 40K 1/14/94 Ulaw 1.4 - What is it? The application Ulaw converts mac sampled sounds to Sun Ulaw format sounds and vice versa. In one direction Ulaw extracts the sounds from the 'snd ' resources of any Mac file. Then it interpolates to the Sun audio 8kHz sampling rate and applies the standard Ulaw quantization characteristic. In the other direction it reads a Sun Ulaw Format Sound File and creates a double clickable Mac sound file (sfil) at any desird sampling rate. Any number of mac files can be dragged and dropped onto the Ulaw application icon and Ulaw will extract, play and store every 'snd ' resource in the resource fork of each file automatically. Requires System 7 and AppleEvents.
SoundMachine1.0.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:So-Sz:SoundMachine1.0.sit 1.0 0 30K 1/14/94 SoundMachine1.0 - Primarily a small memory background µ-law sound player for both Sun µ-law and headerless µ-law files. Uses a custom double buffering technique to play arbitrarily large files continuously from disk. (It can also play linear format files.) It relies on other applications being multitasking friendly to give a continuous sound output. Future plans are to overcome this minor deficiency. Sounds can be fast forwarded; reversed and sped-up; paused and looped. Clicking within the progress bar skips to that portion of the sound. Any number of files can be dragged and dropped onto the application icon and SoundMachine will queue and play every file. Requires System 7.
SoundApp 1.0.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:So-Sz:SoundApp 1.0.sit 1.0 0 63K 1/14/94 SoundApp 1.0 - SoundApp is a great all purpose sound player. Currently, it can play the following sound formats - SoundCap, SoundEdit, AIFF, System 7 Sounds, Sun Sparc Audio (AU), Windows WAVE, Sound Blaster VOC, Amiga MOD, Amiga IFF (8SVX), DVI ADPCM, and any 'snd' resource files. Also, you can drop a folder on SoundApp, and it will search for sounds to play nested inside. Files can be played directly or added to a Play List and played in any order. SoundApp also allows the conversion of these sound formats to System 7 double-clickable sound files. Best of all, it's freeware! Try dropping a game on it - you'll hear all the sounds.
BriansSoundTool 1.3.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:B:BriansSoundTool 1.3.sit 1.3 0 116K 1/14/94 BriansSoundTool 1.3 - This is an increasingly less "quick and dirty" program to do drag and drop conversion to and from Windoze .WAV files and Mac sound files. If you open a non-Mac file with it, it will convert it to a Mac file, and if you open a Mac file, it will convert it to a Windoze .WAV file. The output options are fairly limited. For input however, a Macintosh file is - a system 7 sound file, an FSSD file (with or without HCOM compression), or virtually any file containing 'snd ' resources. Non-Macintosh input files can be .WAV files, Sound blaster .VOC files, Sun(/NeXT) µ-Law (provided they are 8 bit mono), Amiga 8SVX, and AIFF files.

SounDisk lets you record very long audio files, play back these files directly from disk, and with multifinder or system 7, you can play them in the background while your Mac does other things. The best quality file that SounDisk will produce is 22kHz, one channel, 8-bit samples. Works with system 6 or 7 and any Mac with a microphone, including the AV Macs.

When System 7.0 was released, we saw that one of the new Finder’s features was to play a sound by clicking on its icon. The problem is that this can’t be done with sound suitcases. Here is where SoundExtractor comes in. Just drag a suitcase on top of SoundExtractor’s, and a new folder will be created. This folder will have a custom icon of a folder with a little speaker on it, and it will contain all the sounds that were in the sound suitcase. But now, double-clicking on the sounds will play them!
SoundCaser 1.01 for 7.1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:So-Sz:SoundCaser 1.01 for 7.1.sit 1.01 0 15K 9/29/93 SoundCaser 1.01 for 7.1 - SoundCaser is a quick hack I wrote to take my sounds off the System file under System 7.1. It works pretty much like the old Font/DA Mover but it moves sound resources intead of fonts. In fact, creating a new sound file will create a font suitcase with a custom icon that makes it look like a sound suitcase; moving this suitcase inside System 7.1's Font folder (inside the System folder) will make the Mac believe it's a font suitcase, so it will be opened and all its sounds will be available in the Sound control panel right away. All this could be done manually with ResEdit, but it's a lot easier to do it with SoundCaser.
Parrot 1.0b1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:N-P:Parrot 1.0b1.sit 1.0b1 0 10K 9/29/93 Parrot 1.0b1 - The author wrote this hack for a Halloween party. This was in the "confusion" room. A microphone picked up sounds that guests made, and at random intervals, they heard their own voices played at other parts of the room. The hack listens to the sound input device and remembers everything it hears (that is loud enough) and then plays those things back in a random order. If your Mac has stereo capability, then it also randomly chooses a speaker to play each sound. The more memory the program has allocated, the more sounds it remembers. Source code is included. Requires a Mac with a microphone, and System 7.
Mono2Stereo 1.0.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:M:Mono2Stereo 1.0.sit 1.0 0 42K 9/29/93 Mono2Stereo 1.0 - What Mono2Stereo does is very simple - it takes two mono sounds and merges them into one stereo sound. Just open the left and right sounds with the "Open..." command in the File menu, then choose "Save As...". If you’ve got a stereo-capable Mac, which either mixes the left and right channels into one mono channel (Mac LC) or outputs true stereo from the speaker port (Mac IIs and Quadras), you’ll be able to play the sound just by double-clicking the sound file in the Finder. Mono2Finder requires System 7.0 or later, and stereo sounds will be succesfully created on any Mac, but they won’t play on the following Macintoshes - Mac Plus, SE, Classic, Mac Portable, PowerBook 100.
LoopSound 1.0.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:J-L:LoopSound 1.0.sit 1.0 0 19K 9/29/93 LoopSound 1.0 - WHY LOOP? I like to record sounds that can be looped; that is, they can be played over and over without any noticeable click at the end of each playback. SoundEdit lets you do that easily (you can play a loop by holding down the shift key when clicking on the "play" icon), but once you've saved the sound there's no way to loop it from the Finder. Many of my sounds don't even sound good if they're not looped, so I wrote this little application to play my loops. Just drop a System 7 sound file on LoopSound's icon and it will be played forever (until you quit LoopSound or drop another sound on it). System 7 is required.
Async Family 1.14.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:A:Async Family 1.14.sit 1.14 0 40K 9/29/93 AsyncFamily1.14 - Tired of waiting while your Mac finishes playing an extra-long beep? Here comes the Async Family. Drop Mr.Player and Mr.Beeper in your system folder, select a new system beep (a LONG one) in Mr.Beeper's control panel and restart your Mac. All your system beeps will be asynchronous, and if you have a Mac with the Apple Sound Chip (all Macs but the 68000-based have it) you'll hear more than one beep at a time. You may also drop AIFF and System 7 sound files on Mr. Drop to play them while you keep working (multi-megabyte files can be played without any trouble).
ModVoicer 1.1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:M:ModVoicer 1.1.sit 1.1 0 10K 9/10/93 ModVoicer 1.1 - ModVoicer will let you open MOD files one at a time. It prefers files with SoundTrecker's signature, but will try to open anything you choose. The MOD file detection is minimal at this point. Once the file is open, you'll get a window with a list of the valid sample in the MOD. Double-clicking on a list item, or selection of several will open a window for each voice (up to 10 voices). When a sound window is in the front of the screen any noncommand keys will trigger the sound to be played at a frequency related to the ASCII of the key. The author's fascination with those cool amiga MOD files lead him/her to do this.
SMP Shareware.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:S-Sn:SMP Shareware.sit 0 205K 9/01/93 SMP Shareware - Sound Manager Package is comprised of the following programs - Sound Mover 1.9, which includes the functions of the previously separate Sound->snd; SndControl 2.2.2, a Control Panel that allows you to associate sounds to over 30 different actions; StartupSndInit, to play at startup time any number of sounds you copy into it (using Sound Mover) and IBeep2, a very primitive version of SndControl to be used under older System versions (4.1 to 6.0.3) Shareware $25.00.
Compact Disk Time Adder 1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:C:Compact Disk Time Adder 1.sit 1 0 5K 9/01/93 Compact Disk Time Adder 1 - This is a very helpful FileMaker Pro template for anyone who makes tapes from CD's, records or other tapes. This is a very simple template. You simply list the songs and times, and CD Time Adder will add up the total time that will be needed. Great for deciding how to put 45 minutes on a tape, and even better for people who don't like to bother with adding up minutes!
PC Beep.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:N-P:PC Beep.sit 1.0 0 4K 8/20/93 PC Beep - PC Beep is rather simple little sound that emulates a PC's (IBM) sound. It is useful for many different reasons - 1. It is much shorter than the standard Macintosh beep. 2. It sounds better than the normal Macintosh beep. 3. It adds to the awe of Soft PC. 4. If you have ever been in a telecommunications program, and are suddenly sent 20 or so beeps from another computer, your computer doesn't lock up playing beeps. 5. To this date, 100% of the Macintosh users we polled prefer PC Beep over the standard Macintosh beep. It is a cute sound.
WAVEwindow 1.0.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:U-Z:WAVEwindow 1.0.sit 1.0 0 66K 7/15/93 WAVEwindow 1.0 - WaveWindow(TM) is a software oscilloscope. Very useful for anyone who works with sound on the Macintosh, educational, and fun to play with. It displays sound visually on your screen in real-time. Several different modes, including dynamic color waveforms. Requires System 6.0.7 (or greater) and a Macintosh with microphone-input. Supports the Built-in Mic, MacRecorder, VoiceLink, any device that follows Mac protocol. Supports COLOR and B&W. Easy to use, try singing into the microphone. After you get the basic idea, experiment with 'Preferences'. There are several different synchronization and display modes. Try the 'Lissajous Figures' in 'Async' mode and play an 'F' on your favorite instrument. Wow!
Fanfare.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:F-G:Fanfare.sit 0 87K 7/15/93 Fanfare - Fanfare is fun little freeware init that sounds the trumpets when you start your Mac and plays a sound (sounds like a computer powering down) when you restart or shutdown. Uses virtually no memory (about 3K) so you don't have to worry about running out of memory. Works with System 3.3 and up!!
Volume cdev 1.0a1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:U-Z:Volume cdev 1.0a1.sit 1.0a1 0 6K 7/01/93 Volume cdev 1.0a1 - This is a little 13 k tiny control panel which pops up very quickly and allows you to change the volume of your Mac. It seems to come up faster than Apple's sound cdev, and it's so small, you could leave it up on your desktop. Should work with any Mac.
Vol Setter FKEY 1.0b1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:U-Z:Vol Setter FKEY 1.0b1.sit 1.0b1 0 8K 7/01/93 Vol Setter FKEY 1.0b1 - This program is in the form of an FKEY, which means that it is accessed by typing the key combination Command-Shift-<number>, where in this case the number is 8, though this number may be changed using Suitcase or a similar utility. This FKEY allows the user to set the volume level used for system beeps and some other sounds quickly, without all the tedious mucking around in the Control Panel. This FKEY should work on all Macintoshes.
SndRecorder 1.0a3.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:S-Sn:SndRecorder 1.0a3.sit 1.0a3 0 11K 7/01/93 SndRecorde 1.0a3 - This is a simple application that allows people with sound input devices (e.g. the built-in microphones on the new Macs, or MacRecorders, etc) to record sounds directly into a snd suitcase (Sound Mover document) rather than have to use Apple’s Sound control panel to record the sounds, then have to open up the System file and copy the sounds into a suitcase. This application requires System 7.0

SndCollector 1.1 is much the same, but collects less information, is easy to use, and writes the output to TeachText files.

What this FKEY does is take the contents of the Clipboard and uses MacinTalk to make the Macintosh speak the text. This FKEY should work on all Macintoshes. If you have any problems, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.
Message FKEY 1.1b1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:M:Message FKEY 1.1b1.sit 1.1b1 0 11K 7/01/93 Message FKEY 1.1b1 - This FKEY uses the MacinTalk speech driver (if present in the System Folder) to say a message based on the user’s selection in an alert. If the Caps Lock key is pressed first, a predefined person’s name is used also. To use this FKEY, press Command-Shift-6 (or whatever you’ve changed it to) to be presented with a dialog giving you several possible messages which can be spoken. You should then decide if the predefined name should be included in the message or not. Afterwards, the message will be played when command-shift-6 is hit. Fun for surprising people!
Lab Meter 1.1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:J-L:Lab Meter 1.1.sit 1.1 0 36K 6/22/93 Lab Meter 1.1 - Lab Meter displays the frequency and name of any note you sing/play into a Macintosh equipped with sound-input, it's fun to say something and see what notes your voice is. Very handy in a lab-type environment, also fun to play around with. Supports both Color & B/W monitors with separate displays. This Shareware/Demo version is fully-functional except for one minor obstacle... It's upside down. (It is easy to use even upside down!).

Every half hour a voice will announce the time, in best Telephone fashion. If you hold the mouse down during this time this Application will terminate, this will be signalled by a system beep and the word 'precisely'. The chime will not start while you are completing another Task - dragging, selecting, etc.

This is a 'Drag and Drop' Application that reads the text, using Macintalk, of any file dropped onto it or open by it. Works with System 6 or 7. Included in this pack is Freddy Speak, ClipSpeaker, The Reader and Freddy Maker. For System 7, use MacInTalk 2.0
MacNote10.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:M:MacNote10.sit 10 0 7K 6/15/93 MacNote10 - This is a 'Drag and Drop' Application that either records a message as an Audio Data file or it plays any AIFF/AIFF-C file selected or dropped onto it. Works with the System 7 Sound manager, and may also work on sys 6.0.7+. This program may form the base of MacAnswer program, a Macintosh telephone answering machine.
Quadra.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:Q-R:Quadra.sit 0 33K 6/15/93 Quadra - The Quadra 900 has a new boot sound when you turn it on that is quite "majestic"! If $8500 seems a bit high to feel this experience, maybe this program I wrote will at least give you a taste of it. This is a System Extension (INIT), that will play the SAME sound the Quadra 900 makes when it boots up, on any Mac, with the added ability of being able to change the volume "on the fly" as the Mac goes through its boot sequence. If heard through an external speaker a very realistic sound quality is possible.
Color Tracks1.0.1.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:C:Color Tracks1.0.1.sit 1.0.1 0 5K 5/31/93 Color Tracks1.0.1 - ColorTracks is a simple sort-of-extension that enables the music tracks on your audio CDs to display color and/or small icons. Just drop ColorTracks into your System Folder and hold down the command-option keys while re-booting to rebuild the desktop. Unintalling ColorTracks is just as simple. This file works by using special tricks to fool the Finder. It does not take up any RAM and it does not slow down the system.

Making WordsMusic v1.01.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:M:Making WordsMusic v1.01.sit 1.0.1 0 234K 5/14/93 Making WordsMusic v1.01 - Many people have down loaded Making Words With Music v.1. 0 and Bass Clef note Picker v1.0 from 4/18/93. If you did not download the press release posted on 4/20, you could not have used the programs unless you had a music font already installed in your system folder. To avoid any further confusion about this file, I am uploading this maintenance version that does not need the font. If you have already downloaded the previous versions, you can fix the problem by down loading the small press release file from 5/6 in "miscellaneous" which contains the font. You may prefer to download this newer version instead because it does not require Adobe Type Manager!
DataSnd 0.75.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:D-E:DataSnd 0.75.sit .75 0 45K 5/14/93 DataSnd 0.75 - This is the greatest program for converting IBM type VOC files into System 7 sounds for use on the Mac (of course!) I've been having a lot of fun with it. Below is the description from the Author that gives more details. It also plays Amiga Mods and is a handy utility for that because it is small and has good sound quality. You can adjust the volume easily while you work and it the whole program doesn't take up much space on your screen. I highly recommend it...
Balthazar src 1.0.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:B:Balthazar src 1.0.sit 1.0 0 43K 5/14/93 Balthazar src 1.0 - Balthazar 1.0 is a utility that properly converts Microsoft Window's WAVE sound files into System 7 clickable sounds. There is no guessing on the sample rate, Balthazar is intelligent and will calculate out the appropriate data, ergo, there will be no additional clicks or noises (assuming the sample is clean...) Balthazar will convert 8bit monaural or stereo WAVEs into 8 bit monaural or stereo 'snd ' type 1 resources respectively.

This is a maintenance version. Bass Clef Picker v1.0 needed a special music font installed in the system folder. This version does not!. The Bass Clef Note picker specializes in Bass Clef notes. Students will learn where the notes are on the musical staff rather then just memorizing hand positions on their instruments. This program is imperative to any one studying piano, cello or other bass clef instruments.

It corrects a major problem that caused it to crash. Ultra recorder is a program that allows you to use you Macintosh's sound input to its full capabilities. Ultra Recorder creates System 7 double clickable sound files. Unlike the Sound control panel's limit of 10 seconds, you can record sounds for as long as memory permits. Using built in compression Ultra Recorder can compress sounds up to 600%. Ultra Recorder supports Balloon Help, 32-Bit Addressing, has extensive written help, and has a cool color interface. This version is worth the download! $5 ShareWare.
Name That Tune.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:N-P:Name That Tune.sit 0 7K 4/12/93 Name That Tune - Getting tired of seeing my audio CD's mounted on the Mac desktop with names such as "TraCk #1" and "Track #2", I developed a System Extension that lets you rename your audio CD's and their song to whatever you want. Place this System Extension in your Extensions folder and next time you restart NameThatTune will fool the Finder so that you can rename your audio CD's and their songs. In addition, as soon as you insert an audio CD it will start playing. No more having to open CD Remote just to get the music goinPersonally, I have used this Extension for a long time and finally decided to realease it.

The user double clicks on the Hear Me! and it speaks ( or plays any other sound ). You can make your own Hear Me!'s by simply following the directions. Hear Me! now lets you add your own sound resources WITHOUT the use of ResEdit! You may choose between adding sounds from an existing file or recording a new sound if your machine can support it. Hear Me! now allows you to save the sound that it contains. The sound is saved as a 'sfil' file. This means that you can drag it into the System folder in System 7 !
AlphaTrecker2.0.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:A:AlphaTrecker2.0.sit 2.0 0 34K 4/09/93 AlphaTrecker2.0 - AlphaTrecker is a new type of system extension made possible by Apple’s System 7. It is a system extension, but it is not an “INIT.” Rather, it is a faceless background application (FBA) that launches when you start or restart your Macintosh computer. Since it is an FBA, it need not include any provision for interaction with you, the user, so it can be a small file; because it is a true application and not an “INIT,” it is very unlikely that it will conflict with other system extensions that do not also use the sound hardware.

Launch.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:J-L:Launch.sit 0 29K 5/27/92 Launch - switching startup sounds and screens. There is no easy way (that I know of) to switch StartupSounds. This program runs at startup time and renames files if the following conditions are met. First, the system folder must be named "System Folder". Second, the sound files must be renamed to ".Soundx" where x is a letter from A to Z. The file and folder names are case sensitive. If one has eight SUS's, then the files should be named ".SoundA" thorugh ".SoundH". The first time through, ".SoundA will be renamed StartupSound. The next time, StartupSound will named back to ".SoundA" and ".SoundB" will be named StartupSound. And so on...

A truly definative stack (probably stack's') would take more than a few laser disks. I encourage you to use your local library, or college to get more information on these fascinating and enriching topics. I reccomend you use an external speaker with this and any stack or application that uses sound extensively. Provided for the AMUG CD by the author.

Coconut Info® Beep.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:C:Coconut Info® Beep.sit 4 6K 2/13/92 After several years of engineering we have come up with the most pleasant of beep sounds...particularly suited for a business interest or home environment where even the standard beep tone can turn into an annoyance. We didn't deviate too far... meaning we followed the original beep sound guidelines of replicating the tone of a jet liner when the 'no smoking' or 'fasten your set belts' sign lights up. Descriptively speaking it is a bell sound with no attack, sustained decay, then a gentle release. Just drop the file on your system folder (and it will go in your System). Configured for System 7 users only (just use it as prescribed), but resource hacks can move it in earlier systems.

Speed Beep 2.0.6.sit MusicDL AMUG CD:Files:Music:So-Sz:Speed Beep 2.0.6.sit 2.06 3 35K 8/28/91 Speed Beep allows you to keep using your Macintosh while a beep sound (or series of beep sounds) plays. In other words, Speed Beep offers asynchronous sound playing of system beeps. In addition, you can select a group of sounds for your Macintosh to beep from at random (if you wish), and you can cause more than one beep to play at once (if your Macintosh hardware and software support multiple sound playing). This version fixes an incompatibility with the Disinfectant 2.5.1 system extension and other minor problems; I recommend that all users of earlier versions download this upgrade.
